Challenge

Digital and virtual learning programs were already on the rise before COVID-19 struck, yet the past 12 months have pushed businesses to think outside the box and adapt their training programs and delivery. HYDAC Australia has been exploring virtual reality to continue its product training in a unique and enhanced 3D environment.

Proposed Solution

In partnership with Deakin University, HYDAC will develop a virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) training solution that will teach and guide maintenance staff and trainees how to safely service and maintain important hydraulics systems and components.

The research project focuses on enhancing the features and functionality – 3D content generation, product visualisation and user interaction – of the current VR/AR prototype which was designed and developed in collaboration with Deakin University’s Motion Lab. The aim of the 12-month project is to advance the prototype into a commercial application that can be used for on-demand training, on-site maintenance, and remote support.
