Validation of Titomic Kinetic Fusion™ additive manufacturing technology
Challenge
To commercialise and produce industrial-scale titanium complex-shaped structures, utilising Titomic Kinetic Fusion™ additive manufacturing technology, Titomic must define machine parameters and mechanical material characteristics to validate the process for potential clients and major industry partners.
Proposed Solution
Titomic Kinetic Fusion™ is a patented additive manufacturing technology, co-developed with CSIRO, that combines robotics and cold spray technology to produce industrial-scale titanium complex structures.
In collaboration with CSIRO and RMIT University, Titomic aims to test ‘Additively Manufactured Titanium Monocoque Structures’ for use in commercial operations, and thus validate Titomic Kinetic Fusion™ as a competitive and novel advanced manufacturing solution.
Over the course of the two-year project, researchers will model, test and optimise Titomic Kinetic Fusion™ technology, titanium alloy powders, deposition paths, heat treatment and design for specific properties as well as incorporate post-manufacturing processes that apply Industry 4.0 principles to enhance manufacturing capability across multiple industry sectors.
If successful, the new technology will enhance Australia’s metal additive manufacturing capability, define new industry standards for titanium metals using Titomic Kinetic Fusion™ and provide opportunities to capitalise on the global demand for Titanium utilising Australia’s significant reserves of Titanium ore.
